This one is a little bit different, with some out of tune sounding guitars and an almost punkish vocal delivery by McCluskey. The lyrics are perfect and the melody is eerie. I guess I'm talking about the single version here, even though the album version also is cool. 'I've got a telegraph in my hand.' and I've got this song in my head! Sure, it's silly, but also very charming. Lovely chorus with a screaming (and I guess pitch manipulated) McCluskey. This should have been a big hit, had it just been promoted more. It's simple, with its primitive drum machine beat, but that's what makes it so good! And that warm synthesizer line, perfectly synched with the bass guitar. 'Happens all the time, to a friend of mine'. Which are your favorite OMD songs? Make a top 10 and please justifyyour choices, by leaving a short comment!

robotic!) and lead singer Andy McCluskey often sings his heart out (love it or hate it, but his strangled, but still beautiful voice is a big part of the OMD sound).Īnyway. passionate! There is more emotion in their music than in Kraftwerks (and that's the thing I love about Kraftwerk: they are meant to be like that, you know. Some would say that they are just Kraftwerk clones and sure they are very influenced by these Germans, but I think OMD has a sound of their own, something. One of my favorites of the 80's, even though I only LOVE their first four albums (everything after that is mostly hit and miss).
